City of Stow Public Green

KGK was invited to participate in a feasibility study for a local municipality that wanted to create an outdoor community space from an old, seldom used parking lot. With the goal of reducing impervious surfaces while keeping existing boundaries, our team completed extensive site and tree surveys, parking studies, and created a series of greenspace options, eventually narrowing the concepts down to five major options: market space, garden park, sports park, nature park, and amphitheater.

As a part of each design, the spaces needed to include options for community events, maintain parking, create connections between the surrounding municipal buildings, provide gathering and rest spaces for the community and municipal workers, and provide elements that were missing from other local greenspaces. Our team integrated sustainable concepts such as urban restoration, sensory and art gardens, permeable surface options, while maintaining the modern amenities expected in a contemporary park space.

Continuing with this project, KGK was further requested to create concepts for the underutilized flag and memorial lawn beyond the municipal building, ultimately creating a concept for one interconnected park that would turn these empty areas into a bustling, multifunctional space to be enjoyed by the whole community.
