Overlook
KGK was invited to help create a comprehensive landscape plan with the goals of creating functional spaces, minimizing maintenance, and taking full advantage of the site’s scenic views overlooking Lake Erie. Visitors to the Overlook make their way up a paver and curbstone lined drive, reinforcing the home’s brick architectural details. Foundation plantings featuring native and traditional selections flank either side of the Overlook’s entrance, welcoming guests to the front door. Off the driveway, salvaged sandstone curbstones were repurposed into a staircase, creating an informal connection to the backyard.
Utilizing sandstone bouldering, a space behind the home was carved out to create an interconnected, multifunctional terrace. Working closely with the homeowners, KGK developed a plan for a patio that included a custom putting green, a rectilinear firepit, and a sunken hot tub overlooking a Zen-like rain garden feature. Off to one side, an overlook area was created where owners can kick back and enjoy the views of the lake, framed by mature trees and a pair of fire bowls.
