Hudson Village Retreat

Hudson Village Retreat was a design-build renovation project intended to maximize the usability of the site. KGK helped the homeowners develop their property, working closely with the clients to develop a extensive plan that suited their needs and aesthetic.  In the front yard, a new courtyard and walkway were created by responding to the existing architecture and existing mature shade trees. Open access for the homeowners’ children, a traditional planting palette, and subtle uplighting were all essential to the clients’ vision. In the backyard a plan was established that created connections between the new covered porch and driveway, while providing open and versatile spaces for dining and entertainment. A built-in bluestone firepit was created as a focal space for friends and family to gather on cool nights. Full color range bluestone was selected to enhance the home’s cedar-shake siding and was carried through to add warmth to the entire design. In addition to the main patio, informal connections were created with irregular bluestone stepping stones for the homeowners’ ease of access around their space. A traditional planting plan carries throughout the backyard, offset by the clients’ annual plantings.
