Twinsburg Public Library
The Storybook Trail was a re-imagining of an overlooked open space, creating a connection between the existing outdoor features and parking lot, encouraging visitors to explore the space as they read a seasonally-chosen story. Benches and storybook plaques were placed around the paths, inviting visitors to slow down and enjoy the outdoors while they read. Responding to the existing topography and landscape, a raised boardwalk was employed to allow full accessibility around the site while maintaining the existing drainage basins. Native plantings were proposed to create moments of interest and learning throughout the site. Paver pathways were used to tie into existing elements, while natural stone details were introduced to create whimsical features for school-aged visitors to explore, like the “Alphabet Hop” and hopscotch trails. Around the side of the building, a plain brick wall was dressed up with murals, while shade sails provided a cool spot for an outdoor classroom space. The Storybook Trail will fully connect the library’s grounds, adding beauty and value to the community.
