The Village
The Village began as a whole home renovation with the goal of enhancing the existing property by balancing modern amenities with the historical significance of the site. KGK was invited to the project to restore the grounds of The Village, while the team at Pantusso Architecture managed the structure itself, with the goal of creating a refreshed and updated home inside and out. Working closely with the homeowners, KGK developed a comprehensive site plan, creating outdoor rooms connected by paths around the property. A well-established hedge bounding The Village property was retained as a natural fencing element, while monolithic barnstone bollards and gates were installed to create multiple points of access. Responding to the Italiante architecture, period-appropriate materials were utilized to create a grill island and seat wall, while sandstone salvaged from the original structure was used to fabricate the grill island counter and bench seating in the memorial garden space. Bluestone pathways were employed throughout, including the salvaged stepping-stone access path along the side of the house. Sandstone curbing and permeable pavers were used within the parking areas adjacent to the alley, lit by strategically placed path lights. Plantings throughout were of particular significance to The Village’s homeowners. Native selections, like Witchhazel and Amsonia, are paired with more traditional species, like Hornbeam and Lady’s Mantle, creating a unique sense of place.
